3 Days  -  Pergamon,  Ephesus,  Priene,  Miletus,  Didyma  Tour

 

 Day 1  -  Pergamon  ( B / L )

We  transfer  you  from  your  hotel  to  the  airport  for  a  morning  flight  to  Izmir,  then  from  Izmir  Airport  we take  you  to  the  ancient  Greek  city  of  Pergamon.  Here  you  will  visit  the  key  sights, including  the  library  and  the  Sanctuaries  of  Trajan  and  Athena.  After  lunch  we  visit  the  Asclepion,  where  Galen  of  Pergamon,  one  of  the  most  accomplished  medical  researchers  of  antiquity,  studied  and  worked  before  becoming  personal  physician  to  the  Emperor  Marcus  Aurelius.

Overnight  in  Kusadasi.

 

Day 2  -  Ephesus  ( B / L )


After  breakfast   we  depart   for  a  full  day's  tour  of  Ephesus,  where  you  will  see  the  Temple  of  Artemis, one  of  the  seven  wonders  of  the  ancient  world,  Hadrian's  Temple,  the magnificent  facade  of  Celcius' Library,  and  the  biggest  amphitheatre  in  Anatolia  with  25,000  seats.  You  will  also  visit  the  house  believed  to  be  the  final  resting  place  of  the  Virgin  Mary.

End  of  the  tour  transfer  to  your  hotel. Overnight  in  Kusadası .

 

Day 3  -  Priene , Miletus & Didyma   ( B / L )

We  drive  to  Priene  after  breakfast  at  your  hotel.  Priene  is  a  fascinating  example  of  an  ancient  Greek  city  because  most  of  the  foundations  have  survived  the  ravages  of  time.   We  see  a  well-preserved  amphitheatre,  water  and  sewage  system,  the  bouleuterion  (council  chamber ),  remains  of  the  Temple  of  Athena, a  gymnasium,  stadium  and  a  Byzantine  church.  The  setting  could  not  be  more  beautiful,  overlooking  the  flood  plain  of  the  Meander  River,  with  Mount  Mykale  rising  above  it,

Next  we  drive  to  Miletus, which  was  an  important  lonian  city  from  700 BC  to  700 AD. It  was  here  that  St  Paul  met  the  Ephesians  before  his  final  visit  to  Rome. The  ruins  you  see  here  include  a  fortress,  theatre  and  bouleuterion.

Finally, we  visit  Didyma, famous  for  its  huge  Temple  of  Apollo,  which  housed  one  of  the  most  popular  oracles  in  the  ancient  world.

Return  to  your  hotel  or  transfer  to  Izmir  Airport  for  an  evening  flight  to  Istanbul.
