We start at Ayasofya (Haghia Sophia), one of the world's architectural marvels , built by Constantine the Great in the 4th century and reconstructed by Justinian in the 6th century . It was the largest cathedral in the world for nearly a thousand years. Next we visit the Blue Mosque, so called because of the magnificent blue Iznik tiles that decorate the interior. Called Sultan Ahmet Camii when it was built (1609-1616), it is the only mosque with six minarets. The ancient Hippodrome, where chariot races and sporting events were held, has four notable monuments: the German Fountain of Wilhelm II , the Obelisk of Theodosus , the bronze Serpentine Column and the Column of Constantine. Topkapı Palace, residence of the Ottoman sultans from the 15th to the 19th century . Important collections include the armoury, where the jewel encrusted Topkapı dagger can be seen, the Spoonmakers Diamond, miniatures and manuscripts, fıne porcelains, sacred objects and the Sultan's wardrobe with its wonderful ceremonial and informal costumes.
Lunch at a nice local restaurant that serves delicious Anatolian meals.
Suleymaniye Mosque crowns one of the seven hills dominating the Golden Horn and provides a magnificent landmark for the entire city .
Overnight in Istanbul .
Day 3 - Antalya ( B )
We take you to the airport for an early flight to Antalya, where we meet you, barely two hours later, and take you to your hotel. After you have checked in, you have the rest of the day free to explore. You could start with a swim in the clear blue sea, followed by a visit to the excellent little museum, and in the evening why not go to the old town and watch the sun set behind the mountains while you sip cocktails in a bar perched high on the ancient city walls.
Day 4 - Antalya: Aspendos, Perge & Side ( B / L )
After breakfast we will pick you up from your hotel and a full day guided tour will start. Perge , one of the most beautiful and richest cities of the ancient world, famous for its temple of Artemis. The acropolis dates back to the Bronze Age. Alexander the Great visited the city in 333BC during his war against the Persians. Kursunlu Waterfall, surrounded by giant pine trees, is a lovely place to relax in the heat of the day. Aspendos Like Perge and Side, this ancient city was founded around 1,000BC and continued to be inhabited for some 2,000 years. It is famous for having the best preserved amphitheatre in the world, more than 300 feet in diameter, with seating for 7,000 people. Side , one of the best-known ancient sites in Turkey and a popular holiday resort, is located on a peninsula with wonderful sea views. A great wall and moat separate it from the mainland.
At the end of the tour we take you back to your hotel in Antalya for the night.
